Nostradamus prophecies have baffled experts for ages due to their astonishing accuracy, and as 2017 dawns we look at what the fabled sooth sayer has in store for us this year.
According to his followers, Michel de Nostredame foresaw the French Revolution, the rise of Hitler, and the Atomic Bomb. He also appeared to predict the shocking events of 9/11 as well as the assassination of US President John F Kennedy. His first book, Les Propheties, was published in 1555 and made several other predictions for the future, but what did he foresee coming this year?
Nostradamus writes: “The false trumpet concealing madness will cause Byzantium to change its laws. From Egypt there will go forth a man who wants the edict withdrawn, changing money and standards.”
Some speculate this means Mr. Trump (the false trumpet) will go mad and will intervene in Europe’s refugee crisis. If that sounds far-fetched, consider that Nostradamus did appear to predict Mr. Trump’s victory in last year’s US election. “The great shameless, audacious bawler. He will be elected governor of the army: The boldness of his contention. The bridge broken, the city faint from fear.” Many believe that the “shameless, audacious bawler” refers to Donald Trump while the “governor of the army” refers to the American military force. Byzantium, an ancient Greek colony, is linked to Greece, a country which has been hit by an influx of refugees, asylum seekers and immigration problems.
Many think that USA would become ungovernable due to the Trump’s maladroit governing policies and China could make bold moves to cure the economic imbalance and become the next superpower.
Another prophecy states that there would be an unexpected truce between Russia and Ukraine which would not be approved by USA but embraced by the European Union.
The most terrifying of the alleged prophecies are the ‘The Hot Wars’ due to Global Warming and diminishing resources and also the onset of World War 3 due to an assassination.
In terms of technology, Nostradamus predicted that cloud computing would simply become known as computing, solar power would become more widespread, and commercial space travel would take off with orbital flights around the Earth.
OK, so despite the promise of a lot of conflict, 2017 could see a brief respite from fighting so we can all go on holiday for a bit – but then back to war, of course.
Perhaps the directives presented to humanity by Nostradamus’ writings are: to be observant, to heed the warning signs he left for our help. Hopefully, then, we will be able to formulate intelligent, better alternatives to disaster. If we pay attention to Nostradamus’ warnings and make a concerted effort to preserve the Earth’s environment, and avoid disputes among nations, then his predictions will have served the purpose of steering mankind away from self-destruction.
